I really appreciated this conversation and your willingness to open your kimonos. It was especially helpful to learn how the estate is almost more valuable than the individuals. In my animistic thinking, it makes me consider how the estate is so much more than the sum of wealth, but ancestral energy and all the unseen lives and circumstances both human and non-human, strategized and spontaneous, that contributed to this abundance. So honoring the “estate” then becomes almost an indebtedness to that complex lineage of fortune.
Yes, but also the devastation to the human psyche. I see it everywhere amongst heirs & those whose privilege sent them to English boarding schools. We are a nation wrecked by class, little boys shuttered and shattered. I give you Boris Johnson & many of the “ruling class” so divorced from feeling, from human emotion. I’d love to have this discussion, too.
A very intriguing conversation, you two. And what a pleasure to see you both. I, too, was highly entertained with the ladies being busy wearing clothes. 😁
Thank you for this fascinating, honest conversation both David and Eleanor, "women looking busy wearing clothes" that line... I laughed so hard my ear thingys fell out into a cake mix!
Definitely loads of good shorts to follow. Don't be shy about writing them - you'(a)ll. (Comedy is a valid genre tooooo.)
I too can trace a lineage back, a long while, although it splits, into the undergrowth (excuse the pun) too, very interestingly.
But what struck me (like a proverbial wet fish) was that I spend most of my time (truth be told) wishing ... for more kindness, gentleness (and so on) even though I have so many pre-cessors (historical ancestors) whose shoulders were covered in 'brass' and who made a (good?) living out of making sure that it was always the 'others' that got killed.
This was such a fun conversation. I spit coffee all over my keyboard at the phrase "looking busy wearing clothes!" 😂
There's a short story in there somewhere, or a character, no doubt she'll pop up on my page in the future. I see her so clearly....
That line got me too Alisa, nearly cost me my EarPods 😂
I think it every time I watch that Anna Hathaway montage in The Devil Wears Prada
some people have such interesting turns of phrase! :))

Fascinating conversation. I want to dig in and find your first book now to see the insider’s track. 🤩🫶🏻 Thanks for your candour as usual.
A pleasure

A difficult circle to square.
