Oh, as a mum, I am scared for Bridget, but she is getting the best (and very similar) education that I got at a peace camp in the '80s in the Nevada Desert at a nuclear site. It rings so true.
Oh my god, I might have almost gone to that! I was in a No Nukes after school club in '87 and '88 and a bunch of the older kids went to a peace camp in Nevada but my mom wouldn't let me.
Lol. Yes, in 1989, but with all the older women and Martin Sheen who was very active in the cause. And when I got arrested, my parents were so proud. :)
lol, I had a great one of me on the loo at peace camp. It was all decorated in this incredible flower-power graffiti and in it, I'm wearing this Ricki Lee Jones kind of flat top, wide brimmed, black ranchero's hat... but we lost it, along with the others, in a fire :(
Fallout is many things. And one of those, the coming of age piece, especially speaks to me in this piece. My heart opens to Bridget and to Cerise and Maureen and Bridget’s mom and all of them and all of us and the different ways we learned and didn’t to care for ourselves, to be ourselves, to make stands when stands need making, to connect and separate ourselves from systems that don’t nourish us all at once. In other words, your deft storytelling has me thinking and feeling much.
Writing this novel turned me into an anarchist ✊🏻Thanks so much for your support. I’m really touched that it’s speaking to you. It means a lot. I rage and I stand.
So many subtle touches. Ray having one bad eye and one working headlight. The singeing of the map. The deft way you make a few days pass. As always a pleasure to read.
"Bridget imagined the whole of England collapsing in on itself if there was no one telling anyone what to do." A great line!
🙃 Anarchy suffers from a distortion of its definition ....
You’ve painted such a complete world, I feel as though I’m at the fence myself slinging porridge. 🥣
🙌

Oh my god! Please tell your parents, I would have totally made sure you were all right. I was like head Girl Scout, lol!
wow. you were Bridget.

Bridget is getting quite an education. What better way to learn about the Spanish Civil War? Or about anarchy, by experiencing it.
The best education a person can have….
Truly

So happy you picked up on that, the one eye, the one headlight... 🙃
Tensions rising. Love it!
