Thank you Amantine. I can’t wait to share the definitive version with the world. And maybe even read aloud a few pages …

Thanks! Fallout is due out next year, and if I manage it, there’ll be a new novel serialised later this year on Substack.

Fascinating resonances - Dropping in to academia at 40 to 'become' a lecturer in English - and dropping out of being a Lecturer in Creative Writing at 67 I found out that I had silenced my own voice for 27 years. This later voice seems 'more me' but of course there is now actually more than 1/3 more of me ...

a fascinating talk on the joy of reading (aloud) and the aesthetic of Substack. Thanks guys.

Serialising RIVERING is helping me connect, commit and feed on what Eleanor calls here, 'that electric pulse' ...

Thank you for sharing your extraordinary drive, encouragement and conversations.

Volumes!

Ah shite Cherry, that’s such a common refrain in academia and a major bummer. I lasted four years of study and then 5 adjuncting at the Sorbonne before I realized it was actively making me dislike reading 😅

On wards and upwards! The world needs more former academic writers who’ve seen behind the silly curtain

The Sorbonne tho - that’s high high high up there …. hard act to drop - all respect

it's embarrassing - but/and now of course I'm alive, free and living on a uk state pension, somehow!! Happy - (I had Sepsis three years ago - high drama in intensive care and a coma for 29 days - the kids planned my funeral - so this is very much the cherry on top of an adrenaline fuelled existence!)

I have just joined your paying subscribers, as I got tired of not seeing the end of any post. And I just listened to the beginning of this discussion while getting the final details of the publicity that is going out today for the sale of our Paris apartment (kind of funny coincidence). We have had it for 30 years, so it is a sad day, but it is a perfect pied-a-terre, so if you know anyone interested in a place in Paris, do ask! Easy reach of Gare du Nord!

In another life, another me will buy that apartment and move to Paris. A girl can dream…. 🇫🇷

After listening to your podcast I created a Substack account. I'm in draft mode and will publish the first one soon. No idea what I'm doing, so I'm starting with my trusty beginners mindset. So thanks for the inspo. ⭐️ 😎 🥰 ❤️

Update. So, I wrote my introductory post. After it had no views and didn’t show in ‘posts’ on my app. I went back into settings. It was set to private. As I wanted to try to figure out the platform first, then forgot to switch it to public. No idea where the DM is, but will find it eventually. There is a learning curve to this…I really enjoy your interviews by the way.

Nice, I will keep learning but thanks for the inspo. Low expectations- but appreciate your attitude / especially when most of the world seems to be in hustle mode. 🤩 J
