lmfao thatβs incredible; if this happened to me Iβd probably wind up reading them all and becoming whatever they wanted me to be?! iβm impressionable when things are weird / chancy
What the fuck? Hang on, is todayβs substack fact or fiction? Am I missing something? Does this actually happen to you? I canβt work out if Iβm furious on your behalf or a bit jealous π€―
Okay, maybe this is a dumb idea, but I don't think so, what if you read the book and put the actions into practise and wrote about that. There's a podcast called "By the Book" that does this, and it's great. The two women who host the show don't simply review the "how to" book, they live it for 2 weeks in their normal lives, and then report back. I would read your guide to these weird gifts.
I guess it's better than receiving poisoned pen letters. Then again, unsolicited help is insulting enough to fit inside that category. Carry on being you

I do have to say though that O'Donahue's poems have moved me, particularly "Bennacht"-- but anyone sending you anonymously self-help books indicates more his/her problem than any you might have!
I did randomly open it and found some very beautiful work so then I felt a bit bad π³ And also OβDonohue is very pre-christian Celt mood of which Iβm a fan so I felt double bad so maybe my mystery do-gooder is getting closer to what might actually move me after all.... π
These are the kinds of books I'd probably read, but this does sound a LITTLE like when I got engaged to be married for the first time at almost-40 after a very very short "courtship" and everyone who knew me (and my earlier less fortunate dating history), inundated us with marriage-help books. (P.S. Eleven and a half years later, we're still married. I read some of the books. My husband read none of them. We do almost nothing of what was recommended, as far as I'm aware.)
Dear Universe, I didn't order this book. FYI, here's a list of books I do want you to send me.
