I recommend Tom Cox to everybody I talk to. Word of mouth is why he has so many subscribers and he deserves every one! I t was great to read about the wider journey he's been on. Thanks!
To me, Cams, this is among the highest of compliments you can give a writer. I think of writing as part of a giant conversation that transcends time and geography. And writing that inspires me to join in (or if mine inspires someone else) is doing beautiful work.
I am not a writer, but merely a reader who found Tom Cox upon my intro to Substack. I have been delighted by his work and am gratified that I can support, in a small way, his doing it. And the books seem to speak to me personally as a result of my involvement. That's quite special indeed. Thank you, Tom! And Happy New Year!
You have reminded me of one of the best compliments I ever received. It came from someone who asked me to do something. I thought for a moment and said, 'I don't think I can; I'd be too subversive', to which he replied, 'That's why I'm asking you'.
"Not all your subscribers will read every piece you post - or even half of what you post, probably - and some might only read one or two a year, and that's fine."
I don't Tom but damn I wish I had the time!
Thank you for every word I have time to read and all that I don't but hope to one day!
And thank you Eleanor for nabbing Tom for these 8 Questions!
Coming across the writing of Tom Cox has been one of the best parts of joining Substack for me. Now own several actual books and looking forward to more. Only thing better than a great writer is a prolific great writer!
Wow! What a great interview this is. Loved every single bit of shared advice and on Tom's experiences as writer, journalist and Substacker. It feels like a very down to earth piece and authentic, just like Tom himself. Can't recommend him and his stack highly enough. Thank you both.
Love watching your journey Tom! I may read your pieces a bit late after first publication, but I do read them! And enjoy them. Especially like when you read them too - that Midlands accent ❤️
Tom Cox and his 'rebellious' (aka sensible & fair) ways are an absolute joy for Substack readers and an inspiration to its writers. Keep up the great work Tom!
Love this! Tom Cox is one of the brightest spots on Substack. Here’s to artistic disobedience. Huzzah!! 🙌
Thanks Julie!

Really lovely of you to do this, Kathy. Thank you!
It was the weird that pulled me in and it's what I look forward to, a good long form 21st century read that is so totally medieval.
Yes! Exactly that! 👌🏼
You are guaranteed a smile and even a good belly laugh whenever you read Tom’s outstanding work. 🩵
Brilliant. No one makes me want to write more than Tom does. And maybe one day I will!

He's fabulous! Such a satisfying writer (to me) to read. Great questions, very interesting answers from a committed writer!

Thanks Jane! It’s good to know you can still hear it. I wouldn’t like to think I had lost it.
