Sections, consistency, keep it simple, use the same mast head images for each section so the difference is easy to see, and don’t overload your plate (as Jon explains he did to begin with).
Yes I'm thinking of running a short, serialized novel on Thursdays (my 'stack appears Mondays). I don't want to lose readers who are uninterested in fiction.
That makes sense. I would add a section for the novel, and make clear at the beginning of the first few posts what your posting schedule is, and maybe provide instructions on how to opt-in or opt-out of the emails/posts for those sections.
These interviews are always so interesting. Thank you Eleanor for continuing to run them. I particularly like your idea, Jon, of a Ko-fi-type functionality where people can tip on a free post that they found especially valuable.
Thanks Ollie! I have been hoping for a universal micropayment tipping cross-platform app, where you could tip anything from a penny to $50 or higher. But sadly that has never materialized.
Such an interesting and insightful interview. Thanks for sharing!
As always, a really interesting interview with plenty of valuable insights.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
hear, hear for the tipping option idea
I took my own suggestion and added a Ko-Fi button to some of my more evergreen posts. It's pretty easy to do.
I’m going to look into this
I always wonder what's easiest for the reader. How does one deliver both essays and serialized fiction without confusing the reader?

Simple is my middle name. Not really a compliment : )
Agreed! If you are able to delineate a day for fiction and a day for essays/non-fiction, and stick with that, that also helps!
I try to do my comics-related columns only on Wednesday (to coincide with New Comic Book Day).

Thanks I'm thinking every regular post will have some unobtrusive reminder inviting the reader to check out the novel
