Yay! Love seeing you here on this questionnaire, Deirdre. I’m so with you on being drawn to consider one specific subject, like Chloe‘s say, and, at the same time, being compelled to put out a range of things with a Venn diagram that may only be obvious to me. And also being in the same room with writers whose work I aspire to is fantastic!
Glad you’re here. I love reading your stuff and Eleanor’s. Thank you to you both for this share.
Deirdre is one of the few writers who if I see a new post from her pop up, I’ll stop what I am doing and read. Her work is that immersive and enjoyable. Wonderful feature for a damn good author.
Grateful for this interview; it let me know a little more about one of my favorite writers here. I’m grateful for the self-proclaimed pimp who introduced me to her work. Deirdre really knows how to pack so much into a moment. I can’t wait until more people discover her writing.
Oh wow, really interesting post—reading about other authors processes and thoughts is so cool.
I relate to what you said about not having found a groove. Writing just has so many venues of expression and life has so many things to express; it’s just so difficult to choose just one.
‘Still, in terms of discipline and as Eleanor says, the "free flowing insistence" of writing, and the view of myself as productive, I do feel like I have found a groove. My groove is being open and focused and able to say, "I can do it like this if I want to."’
Loved this take on finding a groove - something to work towards!
No question: Deirdre's a goddam delight! ⭐💥❤️
Enormously relieved that Dierdre is in it for the long run! I could read her thoughts on trees, New Orleans, or literally anything else, forever.
Ditto.

Agree. She is one in a million.
Bravo. One of my favorite authors over here, and so fun to hear a bit of her process!
Biggggheart

Absolutely one of my favorite writers on Substack or anywhere.

Yes, Deirdre is a real inspiration to me. She's doing it how she wants to do it.
Wonderful to read. As you know, I admire your work and when I tell people there are incredible writers on Substack, you are very top of mind.
And, also, 🙏.
