Thanks for this fascinating conversation with Chris Best.

Looks like you (two) are both struggling (which is good) to put your finger on

what the Danish call 'a society of trust' - and to build up from that base (no shit!).

And you want to use AI to help you get there. (Not so sure that you are playing in the right

game park / Lion's Den on this one.) Audrey Watters might be able to advise - she's experienced, and good and very tech. and educationally savvy. And lives in NYC somewhere.

Be interested to see what 'new way to create a caring value system' you come up with.

And the (American) saying applies - "if (Substack) ain't broke, don't 'fix' it!"

I wanted to watch this because, although I don't know you, I sense that you are a very reflective person and therefore you were likely to ask him deeper questions than he was probably used to. And I was right. You didn't get as much as I might have liked, but I loved the long silences (and good for you for holding them). I used to do a lot of depth interviewing for my work as a social researcher (I am not good at it, but I do know what you should do). And the secret is in the silences because people don't like them and tend to try to fill them - and that's when you learn. And lots of interesting ideas floating around in your conversation. Thanks for a stimulating 45 minutes..

Yeah I wanted to go deeper but as we’d set up for 8Q it wasn’t right to push too much. The offer - in the silences - was there, but it’s always up to the person in the chair. Thanks for tuning in.

I don’t know what 8Q means. But TBH, I’m not sure how much more would have been forthcoming with all the time in the world. Still very worthwhile.

8 Questions…. It’s the interview series I’ve been running for a few years here. Normally guests write their replies, but when someone’s as busy as Chris I offer to go live instead.

Thanks. Writing and speaking are so very different. Interesting.

Oh... I love this idea of "The Society of Trust" -- it's wildly hard to put your finger on what engenders that! I know that both on Gotham Girl and The Empress, it's come from this deeply kind and supportive engagement that I have so come to value from readers who've been generous enough to show up for the serial experiments and moments of anarchy in my writing. I'm grateful for this platform and will be curious to see if we can continue in this welcoming spirit. I don't quite get the "We Can Do Hard Things" lady deciding that Substack was too hard... That seemed a bit off-brand. Lol.

I hadn't\t put my finger on why it works until that conversation and the word anarchy came up. Of course - this is anarchy in its true sense; we organise around the human principles of care for ourselves and each other. We are self-governing. This is Greenham….
