Oh, Ros!! Don’t judge me for feeling sorry for her. My God, to be trapped in the delusions of narcissism. What a nightmare. Eleanor, I am over and over again by your mad writing skills!
I've a sense of Tessa feeling clearer and steadier about herself, amid her periodic dysfunctions, compared to the malicious delusions of Ros's functional self.
Ah, the true magnitude of the problem revealed. Narcissism is one of those mental illnesses, like alcoholism, where it is quite hard to find the sympathy for the sufferer - and yet...
"There was no happiness in her anywhere, only an aching, selfish, panicked insistence to be the centre of everyone’s world, to seek out collusion, to take hostage, to punish those who saw through her." Wow. How bleakly beautiful; with balance like that, this sentence could probably tightrope it across the Niagara gorge.
But somehow I feel this isn't the last word on Ros?
This chapter brings up so many terrific questions about perception vs. reality. We all take on roles, and sometimes we feel we're being imposters. Ros seems to take on a role and inhabit it so completely that she's writing her own script as she goes through life. Despite all the damage that causes, Ros may in fact be very happy while she's in her fantasy world.
I’m impressed with how you’ve made Ros embody the opposite of Imposter Syndrome. When her life slides into the actually Normal that’s when she feels she’s a fake, and makes up some fantastical reality to counter it.

No judgement here! Compassion for the narcissist is the hardest one of all.

Oh Ros! What will become of your machinations. Not really going to plan
Nope...

I can reveal it's not the last we will see of her...

Yes. More on this once it's over.
